Nebraska was great and so was Dallas Buyers Club. We have not seen any other of the Oscar nominations yet but plan to.
American Hustle is a good movie as well. I've seen Wolf of Wall Street, too. It's not bad, but a bit too gratuitous, IMO.
well, i saw it.
you better get ready for everyone's talk about it.. it was 25 % biblical, 75 % fantasy.. noah was mean as a character, his family was great.
methusala, was an old fart..

Is Jennifer Connelly naked at any point during the movie? That's the only circumstance in which I might see it. Especially in IMAX.
any thoughts?.
If it starts to happen with more frequency than it does, I could see it happening. The fact of the matter is that they can make anything a disfellowshipping offense if they feel strongly enough about it, and they can come up with a scripture to distort to support their position.

"I have the truth now. When are you going to join me?"
so as not to hijack logcon's thread about crazy things jw's have said to householders, i'd like to start one about just plain old odd jw's.. for example, i knew this dear, dear senior brother who would carry a small bag of peanuts in one pocket of his suit coat and a small plastic bag of brown sugar in the other.. during that time, we would stay out all day long because the territory was extensive.. can't you just picture that precious soul alternately tossing a few peanuts/crumbs of sugar into his mouth as he schlepped from house to trailer, from trailer to house?.
the householders would usually offer us water, lemonade, kool-aid, or soda pops, so no problem with finding something to quench our thirsts.. those were the days!.

My friend's mom got a Time magazine in the mail and started freaking out because there was a satanic symbol on the cover(the cover story was about Satanic cults). She immediately threw the magazine in the trash. Apparently she had no concept of what Time magazine was.
This same woman made a scene in the post office because the stamps she purchased out of the machine were of the American flag. She demanded that the clerk exchange them for something else.
today my brother a non witness gave me a phone call.. .
he spoke about this, that and the other.
he then said that my oldest brother (an elder) was having his 25th wedding anniversary.
I would suggest 2 and 3. As much as you may hate your brother, it's his anniversary. The day is about him, not you.
when i first began studying in order to "make the truth my own", there were a set of scriptures that perplexed me and motivated me to dig deeper.. the scriptures are regarding the resurrection of the inhabitants of sodom & gomorrah.. see jesus words here - matthew 10:15 - "truly i say to you, it will be more endurable for the land of sodom and gomorrah on judgment day than for that city.
" (ezekiel 16:48 / matthew 11:23 / matthew 11:24 / luke 10:12 ).
any time that i brought these scriptures up to jw friends and family they would reply like this "jesus was speaking in hyperbole.. that is why he said it would be more endurable".. i would clarify and show them that it says "will be".
Regardless of your view, the topic of Resurrection or Salvation or Ransom are all very important topics
What if my view is that they're not important at all, but rather a figment of the imagination of superstitious men and have no basis in reality?
i'm just curious if anyone in my area besides me who visits this site will be attending another boring assembly in janiesville wisconsin on april 12 and 13th?
.
Janesville was where I attended Circuit assemblies when I was in. But no, I won't be there. I have a 9 year streak of not attending that I don't intend to break.
but their views on blood are just plain weird!
meat has blood in it even if it's bled.
still eating meat means consuming blood.
The idea that people's salvation depended on how they responded to awkwardly delivered presentations of WT publications at their doorstep.
this is an offshoot from the jws then and now thread...it made me wonder what exactly people find attractive about the cult today?
why are they joining?
any thoughts?.
I think it's the lovebombing first and foremost. I also think that people are attracted to the seeming uniqueness of the religion. They buy into the idea that it is somehow different than other religions, and that they are somehow part of an exclusive club.
